About

Who am i?

Here's some pictures to put a face to my name.   I'm Angie, a pre-med student and Neuroscience major at a small liberal arts college.  I started Not a Doctor (yet) because I'm a big podcast fan, and yet couldn't help but feel I could use my podcast time more productively.  I have so many friends who are pre-med at different colleges, and we're all trying to achieve the same thing- medical school.  If I added the time I spend listening to podcasts and studying, it would probably be about 90% of my day... so why not do both?

My goal for this podcast is simple- to build a community around a shared goal and shared resources.  Sciences are beautiful in the sense that at Clemson or at Kenyon, Gen Chem is about the same.  If I could build a podcast where I share tips I have learned and am learning as I go through the process, I can not only help people learn from me but hopefully learn from other people!

Sure, there are podcasts and videos out there from ceritifed tutors and counselors, but what better information than from someone who is literally living the pre-med experience?  I can assure you my information is as up to date as possible- in both of our best interests.  I will happily parse through the "Medical School Stats" tik toks to note the important information.  I encourage you to give me a listen, help grow the community, and achieve our goals together :)

My favorite podcasts (currently):

Very Really Good, Basement Yard, Ologies, TED Talks Daily, & Science Vs

About the podcast

Want to know more about me?

Lately...

I've been working on bioinformatics research—specifically, analysis using pangenomes (created via anvi'o-8) to analyze patescibacteria.  I've also been working with graphics in R.  I've debugged some (a lot of) code, attended my first science conference.  I also work in neuroscience and mitochondrial axonal transport, working with knockout mice, running PCRs, and mounting brain slices for analysis!

Listen to the podcast to hear more, and check back here to see any published work (eventually)!
